POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The ideal candidate is highly motivated and can provide strong oversight of the overall condition, cleanliness, security and mechanical operation of all YMCA buildings and grounds.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provide leadership, oversight, and be hands-on with all general repairs, maintenance and improvements as needed/directed.
- Ensure the building is at a safe, well-maintained level at all times.
- Understand and be able to perform all preventative maintenance duties.
- Develop, implement, and follow a written Preventative Maintenance Manual.
- Perform all duties in a safe manner following such policies as: bloodborne pathogens/Universal Precautions, personal protective equipment, proper lifting techniques, Hazard Communication, Working Safely, Confined Space, etc.
- Immediately correct or remove all equipment/hazards.
- Work in tandem with the Aquatic Team and outside sources for pool upkeep and maintenance.
- Ensure that breakdown and set-up for programming rooms are completed to ensure building operates effectively.
- Ensure all maintenance supplies are ordered, inventoried, and stored and/or secured appropriately.
- Develop, implement, and lead safety trainings and programs within the branch.
- Work in tandem with the Associate Executive Directors and CEO to ensure maintenance budget is adhered to and projects are prioritized appropriately.
- Must be able to supervise cleaning and/or maintenance staff to ensure a constant level of cleanliness and operational safety throughout the building is being achieved as well as the importance of following YMCA policies and procedures.
- Attend all mandatory meetings and trainings as directed.
- Interact with members and staff in a professional, respectful, and courteous manner.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Preferred 2 years of facility and/or properties management.
- Experience managing sub-contractors, soliciting quotes, and contract negotiations.
- Have a working knowledge of building codes, safety practices, and standards.
- Previous documented experience in building maintenance/upkeep.
- Knowledge of handy-man skills and tools (woodworking, painting, minor plumbing, repair work) and an ability to train staff members on the proper use of tools.
- Ability to manage a budget.
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend as well as to communicate effectively verbally, in writing as well as proficient computer skills.
- Ability to take direction and work as a team member as well as ability to coach and lead staff team.
- Current driver license with record that meets YMCA standards, reliable transportation.
- Ability to travel locally.
- Work may require weekend, early morning, late evening hours and some holidays. Ability to respond to facility/property emergencies as needed outside of the traditional facility hours.
- POOL or CPO – (pool operator’s license – training to obtain can be provided, must obtain POOL or CPO within 90 days of hire).
- CPR/AED/First Aid training required within 60 days of hire.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Provides leadership and direction of the Healthy Living Department, including Healthy Living programs, the Wellness Center, Personal Training and Group Exercise.
· Promotes, sells and educates staff, members and community participants on the benefits of participating in key healthy living programs to maximize revenue potential and increase member retention.
· Manages a high performing staff and ensuring the quality delivery of programs and services provided.
· Works closely with the Director of Fund Development on innovative approaches and implements programs, evaluates program results, establishes areas for improvement and develop and implements plans to achieve desired goals and objectives.
· Prepares and manages the wellness, group exercise and healthy living program budgets to assure revenue and program service goals are achieved.
· Recruits, hires, on-boards, trains, develops, schedules and supervises healthy living program staff. Ensures a high level of customer service which enhances the member, guest and program participant experience and satisfaction.
· Serves as a member of the YMCA management team performing specific duties which support the overall success of organizational operations.
· Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
· Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information, may organize and schedule program registrations. May review and process program scholarship applications.
· Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Recreation Director oversees all YMCA Recreational programs and staff. The position will provide supervision to recreation and athletics staff, giving superior program development and ensuring all programs support membership, increasing program enrollments, and enhancing the member and participant experience. This position ensures that their teams operate efficiently and employs a continuous improvement model to meet and/or exceed goals for member and participant satisfaction, financial management and overall growth.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Williams YMCA of Avery County is seeking a healthy living program instructor for the EnhanceFitness Program. EnhanceFitness (EF) is a low-cost, evidence-based group exercise and falls prevention program that helps older adults at all levels of fitness become more active, energized, and empowered. This program fulfills the important need of creating a sense of community among participants while ensuring that each participant’s individual health and safety needs are accommodated. This position has the potential to grow into instructor positions for other Healthy Living Programs and other group exercise classes designed for older adults.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Staff trained in EnhanceFitness will work with participants to improve their cardiovascular fitness, strength, flexibility, and balance while building up the participants’ confidence and self-esteem. The EnhanceFitness Instructor will:
- Design and build class plans
- Conduct registration activities, assessments, and routine fitness checks per program standards
- Maintain participant confidentiality by managing program records according to best practices
- Accept payment for classes and provide receipts to participants when requested
- Have an understanding of and ability to address the unique exercise needs and concerns
- Connect with Senior Program Director on a monthly basis to provide an update on program status and progress
- Maintain a clean and organized exercise space in the Healthy Living Room
- Show a passion for working with older adults and an understanding of physical limitations
- Demonstrate respect and compassion for participants who are at different physical levels
- Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with members, staff, and others contacted in the course of work
- Manage time as needed to be available for participants a minimum of 10 minutes before and after each class, class planning, and other team meetings
QUALIFICATIONS:
- The healthy living instructor must have the required program certification or be willing to obtain it as soon as possible.
- Must have specific knowledge of basic human anatomy and physiology as well as exercise prescription and training techniques.
- Within 30 days of hire, completion of Adult CPR, AED, First Aid.

POSITION SUMMARY:
To further the purposes of the YMCA by building relationships and developing character in all YMCA constituents. Group Exercise Instructors are responsible for leading both beginning and experienced exercises in safe and effective group classes. The goal of this program is to assist members in making healthy lifestyle changes, to build self-esteem, and to encourage consistency. The role of the Group Exercise Instructor is to assist and inspire members as they participate in Group Exercise classes. The
Group Exercise Instructor is expected to demonstrate a professional manner at all times when in the facility, including personal time spent in the facility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
2. Answers questions from members to support them in achieving their goals related to healthy living.
3. Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
4. Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA.
5. Regularly checks all equipment to ensure proper maintenance and cleanliness
6. Keeps accurate class attendance records.
7. Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.
8. Abides by the safety, injury and illness, and prevention guidelines by taking personal responsibility for the own safety and safety of program participants.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Requires HS diploma or equivalent
2. Required certifications: CPR, First Aid, AED, national certification (ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM) in group fitness instruction, or YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise certification.
3. Certification in areas of expertise.
4. At least one year of experience teaching group wellness classes is preferred.

The Child Development Center (CDC) provides drop-in childcare for parents/caregivers to utilize while on campus. After-school will be held at Deyton and Gouge Elementary Schools for the duration of the school year. We are looking for strong, creative, and enthusiastic individuals who would like to make a difference in the lives of the children in our community. After School Program Site Coordinators will be responsible for the coordination and oversight of the after-school and summer programs under the direction of the Program Director. The SC is committed to quality and provides leadership, supervision, coaching, and support to program staff to ensure desired program goals and outcomes are met.
A typical day in After School consists of helping the children with their homework, playing gym games with them, creating an art project, assisting in serving the children snacks, and leading physical activity games. After school is an amazing place for children to continue learning and growing academically and socially after school lets out, and we would love for you to be a part of that process!
We are looking for Site Coordinators who can work Monday – Thursday from 1:30 – 6:00, as well as substitutes who can fill in as needed.

Summer Camp Counselor - Avery County - PT - $12/hr
POSITION SUMMARY:
Are you looking for a fun and meaningful summer job where you can make a positive difference in the community? Williams YMCA of Avery County is looking for caring, enthusiastic, and creative Summer Day Camp Counselors who want to serve as role models for youth in our community. The Summer Camp Counselor is responsible for providing leadership and ensuring safety of all campers and direct supervision of children in all planned activities.
Training for staff will be held from 9:00am-4:00pm on May 27th, 30th, and 31st 2024.
Summer Camp will not operate July 1st-5th.
Option of 4 or 8 hour shifts. Summer Camp will operate Monday-Friday from 7:30am-5:30pm.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Ensure the health, safety and well-being of participants in the program, by providing appropriate supervision at all times.
- Implement meaningful activities, lesson plans, and special events that are age-appropriate, exciting, challenging, and values based in the areas of arts, reading, STEM, character development, creative expression, community service, physical fitness, and/or nutrition.
- Prepare the learning environment, lessons and necessary supplies for program activities.
- Assist children with camp activities.
- Directly supervise campers while swimming or participating in sports.
- Work cooperatively with staff and supervisors.
- Promote an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environment that embraces the diversity of all participants.
- Create and maintain a strength-based, youth-focused atmosphere that is consistent and sensitive to the needs of participants with learning, emotional, or behavioral differences.
- Serve as a positive role model for participants.
- Maintain accurate program documentation (attendance, sign in/out forms, behavior/incident/accident reports, as appropriate).
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with parents and guardians through regular communication about their child’s strengths and areas of growth.
- Actively participate in training sessions, designated meetings and special events.
- Adhere to the Child Abuse & Neglect Reporting requirements, which mandate by law all childcare personnel to report suspicions of child abuse, neglect, or abandonment.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications required.
- Child Abuse Prevention training required within 30 days of hire.
- Previous experience working with children in a camp setting preferred.
- Previous experience in one or more of the following areas preferred: outdoor living, archery, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, or recreational games.
- Previous experience working with diverse populations.
- Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
