The Williams YMCA of Avery County is now accessible:

24 HOURS A DAY, 7 DAYS A WEEK

Visit our Avery County location to add 24/7 Access to your membership!

436 Hospital Drive, Suite 145

Newland, NC 28645

(828) 737-5500

24/7 Access will be available beginning Monday, August 21st at 8pm.

To enroll, members must stop in the Williams YMCA of Avery County Welcome Center during normal business hours to complete the required paperwork, provide updated contact information and ID and take an updated membership photo. Access will be granted within one business day of completing the paperwork.

  • 24-hour access is limited to adults ages 18 and older. 24-hour access will only be granted to those who meet this age requirement. Members who violate this policy will lose their membership privileges, and their membership will be canceled immediately and without a refund.
  • Day pass, NationWide, and other member guests are only allowed in the facility during normal operational hours when YMCA staff is on duty. No guests are allowed to utilize the 24-hour access area after operational hours.

As a member with 24-hour access, you may use the Fitness Center area of the YMCA at any time. There will be no YMCA staff on hand after normal operating hours to assist members.

After normal operating hours end, the following areas will NOT be available:

  1. All downstairs areas of the Main YMCA Facility, including:

    • Locker Rooms and Family Locker Rooms
    • Group Exercise and Spin Studio
    • Aquatics Center (Pool)
    • Healthy Living Room
  2. All Areas for Child Care & Drop-In Child Care, including

    • Arthur Youth Center
    • Hugh Chapman Center
    • Child Development Center
  3. Athletic and Sports Facilities, including

    • Blackburn Athletic Center
    • O’Connell Field House
  4. Member Services and Offices

Members with 24/7 access will be able to use the facility outside of normally staffed hours and on holidays when the YMCA is closed.

24-hour Access is an add-on benefit to regular membership dues. Each registered participant per household unit will incur a $5 per month ($60 per year) fee in addition to the cost of regular membership dues. These fees are continuous and require a 30-day written notice to end the billing/draft cycle.

Additional Charges:

If a Y member damages or loses their scan card, they should report that to the Y as soon as possible. A replacement scan card can be purchased for $5.00.

THE WILLIAMS YMCA OF AVERY COUNTY USES 24-HR VIDEO MONITORING IN ALL OUR FACILITIES FOR SECURITY PURPOSES.

This system does not provide staffing assistance for emergencies but is reviewed daily to address any security concerns and to monitor building access. In the event of an emergency situation, please dial 911.

  • For members to have the added benefit of the 24-hour access program, a valid photo ID must be presented at the time of enrollment. This is required for any member that wants to participate in the 24-hour access program.
  • A telephone is located in the Wellness Center in case of emergencies. In the event of an emergency, always dial 9 first to gain access to an outside line, then dial 911.
  • The Williams YMCA of Avery County highly recommends that all 24-hour access participants have an 18+ year-old workout partner with 24-hour access to accompany them while using the facility during unstaffed hours.
  • During non-business hours on heavy snow days, snow removal will not be in place until staff are present (later if there is a delay in operating hours). Members with 24-hour access can sign up to receive notifications of closures for inclement weather that results in unsafe conditions via email and text alert systems. Facility updates can also be found on our social media pages.
  • If there is a loss of power in the building, please immediately follow the emergency exit signs and leave the building.
  • Hospital Police will make regular rounds through the facility each night to ensure the security of the building and the safety of our members.

This is in response to member and community feedback asking for longer/extended hours. We’ve heard you and want to meet the growing needs of those with varying schedules.

To access the YMCA during non-staffed hours:

1. Hold the scan card up to the card reader to the left of the door.

2. You will hear the door activate and see the reader light turn from red to green when the scan card is read.

3. Upon activation, pull on the door to gain access (there is a 10-second time limit).

4. When entering and exiting the YMCA, please ensure the door closes behind you. Do not hold the door for anyone, as they will need to use their scan card for access.

**Please use the same door to exit the Y. Do not exit through any other doors in the facility, as they will be locked or blocked off.
