POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direct supervision of the Athletics Director, the Athletics Associate at the Avery County YMCA maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals. The Athletics Membership Associate responds to member and guest needs and promotes memberships and programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Responds to the individual needs of the other person.
- Provides excellent service to members, guests, and program participants in the Y and on the phone, contributing to member retention.
- Maintains cleanliness and organization of all athletics areas.
- Facilitates conversations and/or tours responsive to the needs of prospective members; sells program registrations and memberships.
- Develops and maintains positive relationships with volunteers and members and helps members connect with one another and the YMCA.
- Serves others by intentionally welcoming, connecting, and supporting members and participants, and inviting them to get involved and give back to the community.
- Handles and resolves member and participant concerns and informs supervisor of unusual situations or unresolved issues.
- Sets up various sports equipment for member and participant use, and assists with sports clinics, tournaments, and other manners of athletics programming.
- Regularly checks on all equipment to ensure proper maintenance and function.
- Abides by safety, and prevention guidelines, and remains ready to respond to emergency situations.

POSITION SUMMARY:
To further the purposes of the YMCA by building relationships and developing character in all YMCA constituents. Group Exercise Instructors are responsible for leading both beginning and experienced exercises in safe and effective group classes. The goal of this program is to assist members in making healthy lifestyle changes, to build self-esteem, and to encourage consistency. The role of the Group Exercise Instructor is to assist and inspire members as they participate in Group Exercise classes. The
Group Exercise Instructor is expected to demonstrate a professional manner at all times when in the facility, including personal time spent in the facility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
2. Answers questions from members to support them in achieving their goals related to healthy living.
3. Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
4. Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA.
5. Regularly checks all equipment to ensure proper maintenance and cleanliness
6. Keeps accurate class attendance records.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Williams YMCA of Avery County is seeking a healthy living program instructor for the EnhanceFitness Program. EnhanceFitness (EF) is a low-cost, evidence-based group exercise and falls prevention program that helps older adults at all levels of fitness become more active, energized, and empowered. This program fulfills the important need of creating a sense of community among participants while ensuring that each participant’s individual health and safety needs are accommodated. This position has the potential to grow into instructor positions for other Healthy Living Programs and other group exercise classes designed for older adults.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Staff trained in EnhanceFitness will work with participants to improve their cardiovascular fitness, strength, flexibility, and balance while building up the participants’ confidence and self-esteem. The EnhanceFitness Instructor will:
- Design and build class plans
- Conduct registration activities, assessments, and routine fitness checks per program standards
- Maintain participant confidentiality by managing program records according to best practices
- Accept payment for classes and provide receipts to participants when requested
- Have an understanding of and ability to address the unique exercise needs and concerns
- Connect with Senior Program Director on a monthly basis to provide an update on program status and progress
- Maintain a clean and organized exercise space in the Healthy Living Room
- Show a passion for working with older adults and an understanding of physical limitations
- Demonstrate respect and compassion for participants who are at different physical levels
- Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with members, staff, and others contacted in the course of work
- Manage time as needed to be available for participants a minimum of 10 minutes before and after each class, class planning, and other team meetings
QUALIFICATIONS:
- The healthy living instructor must have the required program certification or be willing to obtain it as soon as possible.
- Must have specific knowledge of basic human anatomy and physiology as well as exercise prescription and training techniques.
- Within 30 days of hire, completion of Adult CPR, AED, First Aid.

- Maintains active surveillance of the pool area.

Under the general direction of the Mitchell Wellness Coordinator and direct supervision of the Mitchell Healthy Living Director, the Personal Trainer supports the YMCA’s mission by delivering high‑quality, member‑centered personal training services that promote healthy living for all. This role contributes to the growth and excellence of the Health and Wellness Department by providing safe, effective, and engaging training experiences that help individuals pursue their personal well‑being goals. The Personal Trainer models the values of the YMCA through strong communication, professionalism, and positive relationship‑building with members, staff, volunteers, and guests. A commitment to healthy habits, program promotion, and creating an inclusive, encouraging environment is essential to success in this role.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Work with the Wellness Coordinator to develop the needs of the Personal Training Program, as well as promote the Personal Training Program to the members of the YMCA.
- Acquire knowledge to develop safe and effective personalized fitness programs for clients, including cardiovascular, strength training, and flexibility components, based on their goals and motivations.
- Perform fitness assessments including body fat composition, strength, flexibility and cardiovascular functions.
- Set-up, maintain, store and secure equipment upon beginning and completion of each session.
- Create a positive working environment which encourages and motivates others to become more involved in the YMCA.
- Maintain and evaluate the fitness equipment, reporting the needs of the program to the Wellness Coordinator.

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the direct supervision of the Avery Membership Director, the Membership Associate at the Avery County YMCA maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals. The Membership Associate responds to member and guest needs and promotes memberships and programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Responds to the individual needs of the other person.
- Provides excellent service to members, guests, and program participants in the Y and on the phone, contributing to member retention. Maintains cleanliness and organization of the lobby area.
- Conduct interviews and/or tours responsive to the needs of prospective members; sells memberships.
- Develops and maintains positive relationships with volunteers and members and helps members connect with one another and the YMCA.
- Serves others by intentionally welcoming, connecting, and supporting members, and inviting them to get involved and give back to the community.
- Handles and resolves membership concerns and informs supervisor of unusual situations or unresolved issues.
- Applies all YMCA policies dealing with member services.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous customer service, sales or related experience preferred.
- CPR/AED and First Aid Certifications required within 90 days of hire.

- Basic knowledge of computers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Develop and maintain relationships with members and their children
- Adhere to Child Development Center discipline procedures, check in rules and regulations
- Observe and follow all safety and security procedures
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe play area at all times
- Responsible for set up, breakdown and clean-up of activities and child care area
- Supervise and entertain of children ages 6 weeks to 11 years old
- Employ creative techniques, such as games, creative play, arts and crafts, and other methods to engage children
- Performs additional tasks as assigned

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Youth Development and Afterschool Site Lead, and in harmony with the established policies, goals and objectives of the YMCA of Avery County, the Afterschool Counselor works as supportive staff to provide effective programs and a warm, safe, loving and nurturing environment in which the child can grow physically, emotionally and intellectually.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Establish positive relationships with parents, children, school personnel and other staff members. Be a positive role model.
- Assist the Site Lead and Afterschool Teachers in implementing quality program curriculum and lesson plans of the daily program, including arts and crafts, active games, and snack.
- Assist with supervision of children, ensuring that children are never left alone.
- Assist with positive reinforcement and disciplinary needs of children.
- Help to maintain a physically and mentally safe environment for the children.
- Actively support and participate in YMCA functions as notified by the Director of Youth Development.
- Attend all required staff meetings and give input on programming issues.
- Assist with record-keeping including daily attendance, supply requests, and newsletter information
- Follow and enforce Association and departmental policies, including the substitute policy.
- Substitute at other 21C Afterschool program sites as required.
- Actively pursue training and learning opportunities and certifications relating to the position. Maintain current certifications required by the position.

AFTER SCHOOL COUNSELOR

Monday – Thursday 2:30-5:30 pm
The Williams YMCA of Avery County is proud to offer After School for all 4 elementary schools in the 2023-2024 school year! After-school will be held at Deyton and Gouge Elementary Schools for the duration of the school year. We are looking for strong, creative, and enthusiastic individuals who would like to make a difference in the lives of the children in our community. After-School Counselors will be responsible for the daily supervision of children in the After School Program. The counselors are responsible for assisting in the planning, development, and implementation of all components and program activities in the after-school program under the supervision of their Site Coordinator and Program Director. The Counselor guides the academic and social development of children by providing a safe, enriching, and healthy learning environment. After-school counselors use a variety of resources to reinforce and introduce skills through the execution of a variety of activities.
A typical day in After School consists of helping the children with their homework, playing gym games with them, creating an art project, assisting in serving the children snack, and leading physical activity games. After school is an amazing place for children to continue learning and growing academically and socially after school lets out, and we would love for you to be a part of that process!
We are looking for Counselors that can work Monday – Thursday from 2:30 – 5:30, as well as substitutes that can fill in as needed.
After School is held at Deyton and Gouge Elementary.
