Youth Development Positions
AFTER SCHOOL COUNSELOR
$12/hour
Monday – Friday 1:30-6:00pm
The Williams YMCA of Avery County is proud to offer After School for all 5 elementary schools and 2 middle schools in the 2021-2022 school year! After school will be held on-site at each school for the duration of the school year. We are looking for strong, creative, and enthusiastic individuals that would like to make a difference in the lives of the children in our community. After School Counselors will be responsible for the daily supervision of [children in the After School Program. The counselors are responsible for assisting in the planning, development, and implementation of all components and program activities in the after-school program, under the supervision of their Site Coordinator and Program Director. The Counselor guides the academic and social development of children by providing a safe, enriching, and healthy learning environment. After school counselors use a variety of resources to reinforce and introduce skills through the execution of a variety of activities.
A typical day in After School consists of: helping the children with their homework, playing gym games with them, creating an art project, assisting in serving the children dinner, and leading a game of kickball. After school is an amazing place for children to continue learning and growing academically and socially after school lets out, and we would love for you to be a part of that process!
We are looking for Counselors that can work Monday – Friday from 1:30 – 6:00, as well as substitutes that can fill in as needed.
After School is held at Riverside Elementary, Crossnore Elementary, Banner Elk Elementary, Freedom Trail Elementary, Newland Elementary, Avery Middle School, and Cranberry Middle School.

CHILD CARE WORKER
$10/hr
Monday – Friday 4 pm-7 pm
Saturdays 9 am-1 pm
The Child Development Center (CDC) provides drop-in childcare for parents/caregivers to utilize while on campus. Parents must sign their children in/out and let YMCA staff know their location while at the Y and a cell phone number they can be reached at. There is a 2-hour daily limit for children to be in the CDC. Children ages 6 weeks to 12 years old are welcome in the CDC.

We are looking for strong, creative, and enthusiastic individuals that would like to make a difference in the lives of the children in our community. After School Program Site Coordinators will be responsible for the coordination and oversight of the after school and summer programs under the direction of the Program Director. The SC is committed to quality and provides leadership, supervision, coaching, and support to program staff to ensure desired program goals and outcomes are met.

Health and Wellness Positions
Director of Healthy Living – Mitchell County
$16-$20hr/ Full-time
The Director of Healthy Living develops, organizes, and implements high-quality YMCA program(s), Chronic Disease Prevention and Management Programs, and Community Outreach Programs through the Healthy Opportunities Pilot program (HOP).
The service area for this position will focus on Mitchell County and surrounding areas.
Requirements
1. Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent.
2. Two years of related experience preferred.
3. Requirements within 30 days of hire include completion of Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; Working with Program Volunteers; CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens.
4. Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications (Team Leader within 3 years)
5. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

WELLNESS COACH
$10/hr
Under the general direction of the Director of Healthy Living and consistent with the YMCA Mission Statement and the policies and procedures set forth by the Williams YMCA of Avery County, the Wellness Coach is responsible for all aspects of member safety, fitness introduction, supervising, maintaining a clean environment and reinforcing proper fitness techniques in the Wellness Center. As a member of the Wellness Team, the Wellness Coach is a constructive employee of the YMCA whose major priority is to serve the members with the highest quality of service and facilities available.
Requirements
- Personal Commitment to YMCA ideals
- Knowledge of strength and cardiovascular training principles
- Current certification in CPR, First Aid, AED, and O2 (within 90 days of employment)
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to others

PERSONAL TRAINER
$20-30/hr
Personal Trainers, under the direct supervision of the Director of Healthy Living, will be responsible and accountable for assisting in the development of the Health and Wellness department and Personal Training Programs held at the Williams YMCA of Avery County. The Personal Trainer must demonstrate a personal commitment to the mission of the YMCA. This position requires that he/she must have good communication skills, organizational skills, strong human relation skills, dress appropriately to fit the task, exhibit good health habits and is expected to promote the programs and services of the YMCA. The ability to maintain harmonious relationships with staff, volunteers, members, and guests is essential.

Recreation Positions
LIFEGUARD
$10/hr
Lifeguards are responsible for supporting and enforcing the rules, regulations, and safety of the pool facility and associated programs. Lifeguard certification required for lifeguard position and WSI certification recommended. Some related work experience with pool operations preferred, but not required. Current CPR certification preferred but can be provided on site. Applicant must have customer service skills and have a dependable work ethic. Applicant should

ATHLETICS MEMBERSHIP ASSOCIATE

Part-time Athletics Membership Associate position: This position would work in the YMCA’s Athletic facility checking members in, assisting in sports clinics and tournaments, setting up various sports equipment and light cleaning of athletics facilities. Knowledge of various sports helpful but not required. This is a part time position, various shifts available including daytime, evenings and weekends. The applicant must work well in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive and professional level of service. Applicant should be proficient in basic computer skills including data entry and web-based operating systems. Must be at least 18yrs old.

SWIM LESSON INSTRUCTOR

Swim Lesson Instructors instruct participants in both swimming and safety skills in the water. Provide a fun and educational swim lesson experience for both participants and parents. Observe and enforce all rules and regulations of the facility to prevent accidents or emergency situations and educate class participants on the rules of the facility. WATER FIT INSTRUCTOR

Water Fit Instructors teach scheduled classes, beginning and ending on time; provide adequate warm-up, exercise, stretching, and cool down. Instructs participants on effective workout methods; explains proper techniques; demonstrates exercises; identifies different muscle groups and teaches appropriate methods to strengthen specific muscle groups. Current CPR certification is preferred but can be provided on-site. Applicant must have customer service skills and a dependable work ethic. Communtiy Outreach Positions
COMMUNITY OUTREACH COACH
$12/hr
The Community Outreach Coach is responsible for assisting the Director of Community Outreach with receiving referrals, tracking and inputting data into the NCCARE360 system, providing services to program participants, and assisting the Director of Community Outreach with other Healthy Opportunity Pilot Program (HOP) tasks. The ideal candidate will be fluent in both English and Spanish.
HEALTHY OPPORTUNITIES PILOT PROGRAM
The Healthy Opportunities Pilot Program (HOP) is a unique program being offered in 18 counties across Western North Carolina and in 15 counties in Eastern North Carolina. HOP delivers whole-person care through coordinated physical health, behavioral health, intellectual/developmental disability, and pharmacy products and care models. It addresses the full set of factors that impact health (both medical and non-medical) and performs localized care management at the site of care, in the home or community. The HOP program is open to most Medicaid-managed care enrollees who meet additional criteria.
