Youth Development Positions
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
$18/hour
Monday – Friday, 8-hour shifts
The Williams YMCA of Avery County is proud to offer After School for all 5 elementary schools and 2 middle schools in the 2021-2022 school year! After school will be held on-site at each school for the duration of the school year. We are looking for strong, creative, and enthusiastic individuals that would like to make a difference in the lives of the children in our community. In conjunction with the Youth Development Director, the Assistant Director of Youth Development will assist in the planning, coordinating, and implementation of the after-school and summer programs. The Assistant Director is responsible for coordinating curriculum, program integrity, and schedules between all after-school sites. The Assistant Director is responsible for reporting findings, incidents, program highlights, and issues back to the Program Director.
Essential Functions:
1. Visits all after-school sites weekly to ensure the program is meeting compliance.
2. Maintains ongoing communication and collaboration with Program Director, Site Coordinators, After School Counselors, school administration, and community partners to successfully implement the program.
3. Provides Program Director with information on sites after visits and assists Director in implementing steps necessary to remedy weaknesses.
4. Evaluates program quality and fidelity, and work with Site Coordinators to ensure compliance.
5. Assists Site Coordinators and After School Counselors in developing curriculum, planning schedules, and engaging students.
After School is held at Riverside Elementary, Crossnore Elementary, Banner Elk Elementary, Freedom Trail Elementary, Newland Elementary, Avery Middle School, and Cranberry Middle School.

After School Counselors will be responsible for the daily supervision of [children in the After School Program. The counselors are responsible for assisting in the planning, development, and implementation of all components and program activities in the after-school program, under the supervision of their Site Coordinator and Program Director. The Counselor guides the academic and social development of children by providing a safe, enriching, and healthy learning environment. After school counselors use a variety of resources to reinforce and introduce skills through the execution of a variety of activities.
A typical day in After School consists of: helping the children with their homework, playing gym games with them, creating an art project, assisting in serving the children dinner, and leading a game of kickball. After school is an amazing place for children to continue learning and growing academically and socially after school lets out, and we would love for you to be a part of that process!
We are looking for Counselors that can work Monday – Friday from 1:30 – 6:00, as well as substitutes that can fill in as needed.

SUMMER CAMP COUNSELOR
$12/hour
FLSA Status: Part Time – 25 – 35 hours/week
Reports to: Youth Development Director
POSITION SUMMARY:
Are you looking for a fun and meaningful summer job where you can make a positive difference in the community? Williams YMCA of Avery County is looking for caring, enthusiastic, and creative summer Day Camp Counselors who want to serve as role models for youth in our community. The Summer Camp Counselor is responsible for providing leadership and ensuring the safety of all campers and direct supervision of children in all planned activities.
Must be able to work flexible hours Monday – Friday from 6/6 – 8/5.
Training will take place between the weeks of 5/30 – 6/3.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of participants in the program, by providing appropriate supervision at all times.
- Plan and implement meaningful activities, lesson plans, and special events that are age-appropriate, exciting, challenging, and values-based in the areas of arts, reading, STEM, character development, creative expression, community service, physical fitness, and/or nutrition.
- Prepare the learning environment, lessons, and necessary supplies for program activities.
- Assist children with camp activities enhancement activities.
- Directly supervise campers while swimming or participating in sports.
- Work cooperatively with staff and supervisors.
- Promote an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environment that embraces the diversity of all participants.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications are required.
- Child Abuse Prevention training is required within 30 days of hire.
- Previous experience working with children in a camp setting was preferred. Minimum 1 year
- Previous experience in one or more of the following areas preferred: outdoor living, archery, boating, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, or recreational games.
- Previous experience working with diverse populations.
- Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.

CHILD CARE WORKER

The Child Development Center (CDC) provides drop-in childcare for parents/caregivers to utilize while on campus. Parents must sign their children in/out and let YMCA staff know their location while at the Y and a cell phone number they can be reached at. There is a 2-hour daily limit for children to be in the CDC. Children ages 6 weeks to 12 years old are welcome in the CDC.

PERSONAL TRAINER

Personal Trainers, under the direct supervision of the Director of Healthy Living, will be responsible and accountable for assisting in the development of the Health and Wellness department and Personal Training Programs held at the Williams YMCA of Avery County. The Personal Trainer must demonstrate a personal commitment to the mission of the YMCA. This position requires that he/she must have good communication skills, organizational skills, strong human relation skills, dress appropriately to fit the task, exhibit good health habits and is expected to promote the programs and services of the YMCA. Recreation Positions
LIFEGUARD

Lifeguards are responsible for supporting and enforcing the rules, regulations, and safety of the pool facility and associated programs. Lifeguard certification required for lifeguard position and WSI certification recommended. Some related work experience with pool operations preferred, but not required. COMMUNITY OUTREACH COACH

The Community Outreach Coach is responsible for assisting the Director of Community Outreach with receiving referrals, tracking and inputting data into the NCCARE360 system, providing services to program participants, and assisting the Director of Community Outreach with other Healthy Opportunity Pilot Program (HOP) tasks. HEALTHY OPPORTUNITIES PILOT PROGRAM
The Healthy Opportunities Pilot Program (HOP) is a unique program being offered in 18 counties across Western North Carolina and in 15 counties in Eastern North Carolina. HOP delivers whole-person care through coordinated physical health, behavioral health, intellectual/developmental disability, and pharmacy products and care models. It addresses the full set of factors that impact health (both medical and non-medical) and performs localized care management at the site of care, in the home or community. The HOP program is open to most Medicaid-managed care enrollees who meet additional criteria.
