Avery County Programs
Avery County Elementary After School Program 2026-2027
The Williams YMCA of Avery County is proud to offer After School programs in all five Avery County elementary schools for the 2026-2027 school year. After School will be held on-site at each school and will operate from the time school lets out (varies by school) until 6:00 PM. After school serves students in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade.
Registration is OPEN (online only)!
After school provides students with an opportunity to continue learning after school is over through homework help from staff and tutors, targeted reading and math activities, social-emotional learning, art projects, guest speakers, and other enrichment activities. We provide physical activity daily to ensure your child is staying active, as well as a snack, through a partnership with Avery County Child Nutrition.
When: We follow the school calendar and will be offering after-school on any day when school is in session for a full day; we do not provide after-school on early dismissal and snow days.
Time: School dismissal – 6:00 PM
Where: Riverside Elementary, Newland Elementary, Banner Elk Elementary, Crossnore Elementary, Freedom Trail Elementary

Mitchell County Programs
Mitchell County Elementary After School Program 2026-2027
We are excited to serve all K-5 schools and middle schools in Mitchell County for the 2025-2026 school year! We will be operating Monday through Friday at four school sites, and we will also have a YMCA site for private school and homeschooled children in Kindergarten through 5th grade. All children who attend school at Gouge, Greenlee, or Mitchell Elementary will have school at their site. Public school children will not be bused to another after-school site. Please see below to register your child for the appropriate school.

YMCA Summer Camp
Avery County Summer Camp
K-5 Grade Summer Camp 2026
The Williams YMCA of Avery County is proud to be able to offer Summer Camp for Avery County elementary school students. Summer Camp will be held on-site at the Williams YMCA of Avery County and operate from 7:30 am – 5:30 pm. Summer Camp is offered for rising first through sixth graders.
Registration is Closed
Summer Camp provides students with an opportunity to continue learning when schools are out for the summer through field trips, projects, and exciting hands-on academic and enrichment-based activities. These activities target reading, math, social-emotional learning, and art. We provide daily physical activity to ensure your child stays active, as well as breakfast and lunch, through a partnership with Avery County Child Nutrition and Feeding Avery Families.
When: June 8 – July 30, 2026
Time: 7:30 am – 5:30 pm
Where: Williams YMCA of Avery County campus
